Williams Gold Mine
Barrick Gold
The Williams Gold mine is part of the Hemlo mining camp located 40km east of Marathon Ontario. Operated by Barrick Gold, it consists of both an open-pit and underground mine. Operating since 1985 the mine produced 235,000 ounces of gold in 2016. The mine is expected to be in operation through at least 2021.
Sumac has been working with the Barrick Environmental team to source and deploy a UAV at the Williams Mine. For this, Sumac recommended the Matrice 100 from DJI. With excellent flight characteristics, ease of use and an ability to be customized, the M100 provides a reliable and versatile platform for collecting aerial imagery in a rugged mining environment. Sumac is providing the Barrick team with training and operational support for the duration of the project.
